IN THE CHAIR WITH
Join us for our in the chair with interview.
Every Sunday we either find one of the top barberbers and stylist or someone who is making waves in the industry or has an interesting story to tell and put ten carefully thought out questions to them to find out their inner thoughts and draw out the answers we all want to hear.

LYNNDY ROLFE
OK this weeks in the chair is with Lynndy Rolf who is part of the Hair Bond Artisitic Team, Lynndy has a plethora (Word of the day) of knowledge gained from not only working as a Barber put also a hairdresser and beautician.
As usual please feel free to ask Lynndy any questions in the comments below and keep an eye out for a Hairbond competition that were plnning for the next few weeks.
LYNNDY THANKS FOR AGREEING TO JUMP IN THE CHAIR, CAN YOU START BY TELLING OUR READERS A BIT MORE ABOUT YOU?
Hi James, well as you know my name is Lynndy! I’m 21 (and have been for the last 10 years!) and I’m currently working freelance.
I spend my days doing my own clientele, assessing in a local college, photoshoots and shows etc
I’m qualified to do beauty therapy, hairdressing, barbering, psychology, counselling and I’m make up artist!!
I’m married with 3 children aged 3, 3 and 9 months… Life’s busy!
SO WE SEE YOU CELEBRATED YOUR 21st BIRTHDAY (AGAIN) RECENTLY, HOW LONG HAVE YOU WORKED IN THE INDUSTRY FOR AND WHAT FIRST ATTRACTED YOU TO IT?
I have worked in the industry since I was 15, I was attracted to it as it seemed so glamorous, I love glamour! when I worked in salons I made sure I worked in the biggest and best salons because I wanted to be up there with best!! I always had a vision for myself and I’m very happy to say I’m living all my dreams!!
I love this industry and its going from strength to strength, I’m amazed at how it’s transformed the hairdressing and Barbering industry is definitely on the map and much more respected than it ever was!
HAIRBOND GLOBAL SESSION STYLING COORDINATOR, THAT’S NOT EASY TO SAY AFTER ONE TO MANY OF THOSE COCKTAILS WE SAW YOU DRINKING AT YOUR BIRTHDAY BASH, I BETTING IT WAS’NT AN EASY TITLE TO ACHIEVE…..TELL US MORE ABOUT IT AND THE HOOPS YOU JUMPED THROUGH TO GET THERE?
Well James? I’m sure Scott and Chris will agree with me when I say I jumped through fire hoops!! Ha ha!!
I chased my dreams, when one door closed on me I asked myself why?! I looked at myself and asked how can i do better and be better?
I assessed the situation and picked myself up and tried a new angle, nothing happened overnight I worked my butt off and sacrificed a lot! I showed commitment!
SO FOR DECADES IT APPEARS THAT FEMALES HAVE BEEN UNDER REPRESENTED IN THE GENTS HAIR INDUSTRY, WHY DO YOU THINK THIS IS AND WHAT CHANGES HAVE YOU SEEN SINCE BECOMING A BARBER YOURSELF?
I’ve got to be honest with you, I don’t feel that females are underrepresented one bit! If they are I havent taken any notice!! I don’t get caught up in the B.S I’m too focused, people judge all the time it’s natural, if it’s nonsense or not justified I just carry on doing what I love!!
I surround myself with good people, I try not to judge, I’m respectful of others work even if I’m not sure about it, we are all trying to do our best in the industry and that is what matters most!
SO LIKE A FEW OF OUR OTHER INTERVIEWEES YOU HOLD YOUR TRAINING AND ASSESSOR QUALIFICATIONS, IF YOU WERE TO GIVE ONE PIECE OF ADVICE TO A NEWBIE JOINING THE INDUSTRY WHAT WOULD IT BE?
I know there is some controversy surrounding this matter! I’m going to tread carefully here.
I think education and certificates support you for so many reasons, it protects you for insurance purposes, it gives you a huge sense of achievement when you complete your qualification, you understand the basics of the theory of hair not just the practical, men are starting to want more from their hair, colour, perming and not just that but also skin and scalp problems all of this will be included in the qual!
I’m definitely pro education and qualifications. But I’m respectful of those who didn’t get quals because they were not available at the time we can learn a lot from each other, new emerging talent meets old school traditions!!
OK BACK TO HAIRBOND, SINCE WE SAW THE FOUR MUSKATEERS ARRIVE ON THE SCENE (SCULPTOR, DISTORTER, SHAPER AND MOULDER) WHAT HAS BEEN ADDED TO THE RANGE AND WHATS ON ITS WAY?
After the huge success of Sea Salt Spray the Toffee Shaper Spray (which smells divine by the way)Hairbond are set to release something new… One word for you James…. Gripper!!!
Watch this space!!
YOU’RE HERE YOUR THERE YOUR EVERYWHERE, FACEBOOK, TWITTER, LINKEDIN ETC …………………… HOW IMPORTANT IS SOCIAL MEDIA WITHIN THE INDUSTRY AND WHAT ELSE DO YOU USE THAT WE HAVE MISSED?
It’s your opportunity to show the whole world how great you are, your work, your personality!! I blummin love social media!! Don’t air your dirty laundry though, I hate all the bitching and nasty comments, it’s not the place for arguments!!
Although I will read them if you do ha ha!! I’m only human and I’m a girl Face with stuck-out tongue and winking eye
LYNNDY ONE OF THE HOT TOPICS IS STATE REGISTRATION, WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THIS AND HOW DO YOU SEE THE FUTURE OF THE GENTS HAIRDRESSING INDUSTRY?
I’m registered!! I support this, it’s reassuring for clients, so why not? I’m proud I’m a senior state registered hairdresser and barber and I’m happy for everyone to know I am!
OK SUPERWOMAN WHATS YOUR KRYPTONITE WITHIN THE INDUSTRY, WHATS THAT ONE STYLE YOU CANT STAND DOING OR THAT AWKWARD SITUATION YOU COULD HAVE DONE WITHOUT BEING INVOLVED IN?
Oh Lordy, Lordy!! That’s a good one! I’ll tackle any haircut, colour etc I’m confident! Awkward situations however…. When I was inexperienced and had big opportunities… Let’s say I learnt some hard lessons early on!!
LYNNDY LETS LOOK FORWARD FIVE YEARS, ITS THE EVE OF YOUR 26th BIRTHDAY YOUR STILL KNOCKING THE DRINKS BACK AND REMINISCING ABOUT THE PREVIOUS FIVE YEARS …………………. WHAT DO YOU HOPE THOSE FIVE YEARS INCLUDE?
My husband and I have a business plan for barber shops!!! Watch this space!! We are ready to go!!
