Aaron McHargs Mobile Barbershop (Part 1)

So i was fortunate enough to catch up with Aaron McHarg a Barber from Livinsgston in Scotland who is transforming an old NHS mobile dentist Van in to a mobile Barber Shop, Aaron took time out of the renovation and coach works to have a little chat with me about the project

Thanks for allowing me the opportunity to showcase my mobile barber van James its much appreciated, so hi my name is Aaron McHarg im a barber from Livingston in Scotland, the concept of the mobile barbershop is pretty simple and will see the Ex-NHS mobile dentist van turned in to a fully equipped two chair barbershop.

The mobile unit will consist of two barber chairs, a backwash sink, comfortable waiting area for four clients and a display for retail products. The mobile shop will work on a set location basis, travelling between three pitches.

I came up with the idea of a mobile barbershop while working as a barber in my home town of Livingston in Scotland. I thought the idea was a bit different and would allow me to move around doing the job I love. I researched other mobile barbershops and noticed that the few I found were lacking in character and were not quite up to the standard of many barbershops so I set out to make my own take on the mobile shop bigger and better.

Getting work started on the van was a mighty effort. I bought it as a fully equipped dentists so had to strip it bare before a barbershop could even be imagined. While trying to get rid of some old dental equipment I was contacted by a lady called Bahati who along with her church is trying to provide basic services including a dental clinic to an African village called Moshi. I donated what I could to her effort and I am really excited to see an old dentists chair from Scotland being given a second lease of life near Mount Kilimanjaro in east Africa.

Work on the barbershop is still on going but definitely nearing completion and I hope to be trading in late april once I am back from doing a three day course with the legendary Schorem in Rotterdam.

Join us on Thursday for the second part of Aarons story, If you have a story you want to showcase on Barber Banter please get in touch were alwys looking for interesting storys to share on both the website and social media.
